This scheme was for a major extension to the rear and above an existing surgery building on a confined site in a suburban area. The existing building was altered and extended to provide additional consulting rooms, a treatment room, staff room and improved reception area. The design of the building had to be in keeping with the built-up residential nature of the surrounding environment. The project also required us to liaise over the acquisition of a site to the rear of the existing plot to provide for an increased parking area.
The design of the project was timber frame to give speed of construction and reduce the weight to the existing foundations. The building was also clad in timber to give a distinctive appearance that differentiates it from the surrounding residential buildings.
The project also entailed the coordination of temporary housing of the surgery during construction. The entire surgery was temporarily housed in a series of portacabins on the adjoining village hall site which successfully enabled a smooth transition for staff and doctors.
