Pelican House – (Grade II Listed)

Properties that survive intact over the centuries often need a dramatic intervention to enable them to be properly enjoyed in the present day. Pelican House, a former gamekeeper’s cottage on a Country Estate, was virtually untouched since the 17th century, with the exception of some 19th century extensions to create game larders and dog runs.

Being Grade II listed and in close proximity to the Hall on which Country Estate Pelican House is still very much a part, its external appearance could not be altered visually from the front. However, to enable the house to be properly enjoyed we looked to restructuring internally so as to improve both circulation within the house and its useable living space. In order to do this, the existing staircase was relocated to a new stair tower which was added to the rear.

The dog run was refurbished into a large kitchen/dining/living space and features sliding folding doors with a flush threshold to allow unhindered access to a large internal courtyard created by the scheme.

Thermal insulation added to the internal walls, a solar hot water system and a heat recovery system are some of the sustainable features included in this project.
